for HVAC/R Service Technician
This job involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, repair,
installation, servicing and maintenance of heating,
air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and
systems found in commercial buildings, hospitals,
supermarkets, industrial and manufacturing plants.
This job requires climbing, bending, stooping,
crawling, kneeling, lifting and working in extreme
temperature ranges. You may be required to work
in high or enclosed spaces, and outside in various
weather conditions. Service technicians drive a
company supplied vehicle, use tools that are provided
by the contractor and may be required to be on
call for after work hours and weekend service calls.
This job requires good communication skills, a
neat appearance and a clean driving record.
Service technicians must have a good understanding
of electricity, science, refrigeration, heat transfer,
and temperature control. Applicants must successfully
complete a two-year day school course in residential
and commercial HVAC/R service prior to applying for
the service apprenticeship program.
Qualifications
* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Must have a valid driver's license
* Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED
certificate; documentation must be furnished at time
of application
* If requested, the applicant shall furnish the committee
with a written statement from a medical doctor that
he/she has had a physical examination in connection
with the application, and are physically fit to perform
the work of a pipefitter
* Must pass the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (Form
V) and the Wonderlic Basic Skills Tests, as administered
by Dunwoody Institute
* Must have completed a two-year Technical College
day school course in residential and commercial HVAC/R
service
* Written notices will be furnished to applicants
who are found not to meet the basic requirements
Apprenticeship Program
The apprenticeship program is 8,750 hours of on the
job training and a minimum of 1080 hours of related
classroom training in a five-year period. One year
of credit towards the apprenticeship is granted
for the completion of the two years of Technical
College in HVAC.
The program is a total of four (4) years. An apprentice
shall attend school in the evening, typically two
(2) nights a week, between the months of September
and April. He/she must pass all courses with a minimum
score of seventy percent (70%) to advance to the
next year in the program. Tuition for school is $525.00
per year plus books.
All jobs or referrals are done through Local 539.

Transportation Requirements
The contractor provides a service vehicle. A valid
driver's license and a clean driving record are
required. A clean driving record means that you
have not had a DUI in the last 5 years or any other
driving violations which would prevent a contractor's
insurance carrier from providing normal insurance
coverage for you to drive their company vehicle.
Hours
Forty (40) hours per week: eight (8) hours daily
between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM
